“Requiem for June” process, oil on panel, 32 x 30 in.
I scrolled down and thought this was a photograph of a painting sitting behind some candles. Not until I scrolled back up did I realise that the candles are part of the painting.
It’s a painting of a painting that was damaged by fire in the past and had the bottom burned away… being lit by candles that look like they could do the same thing. What’s more, it uses shadows to craft more of the illusion of it being a photograph by having dim areas be less focused and detailed. This is truly a series of delightful visual twists.
